Summary

Qashqai rugs are woven by nomads who live in the mountainous areas of Southwest Persia, the provinces of Fars, Khuzestan, south of Isfahan and around the city Shiraz. Their rugs have a high knot density and a wide variety of designs, usually in deep red and blue colours. They weave rugs, Kilims and decorative textiles (ribbons, bags, etc.), which depict scenes from their lives with various representation of humans, animals, birds, trees and flowers.

The Shiraz rugs are kind of Persian rugs made in the villages around the city of Shiraz. The designs are geometric, and are characterized by a medallion in the center of the rug. Their colours are red and brown and often use diamond shape as the main motif.

Nomadic rugs: Rugs woven by nomads. Nomads move continuously and do not stay permanently in one geographic region. They manufacture (weave) handmade rugs on collapsible looms. Due to that fact there may be slight variations in weaving and their rugs are sometimes uneven in shape. Also the weaving is made from memory and it depends on each artisans momentary inspiration. As a result, the designs in some rugs are not even on the entire surface.
