In the province of Farahan is found the city of Arak, formerly known as Sultanabad, with 500,000 citizens it is built on the ruins of a small town called Daskerah.. The rugs woven in the city and surrounding villages are identical to the Sarouk rugs, but the quality, colours and designs are intended primarily for the U.S. market. The Sultanabad rugs are very sturdy due to their very tight weave and the fact that they are woven with a double weft. Their wool is of excellent quality. The colours used are red, pink, beige and dark blue as a background. Their designs consist mainly of medallions surrounded by plain coloured surfaces. Also full, dense and fine designs are woven, with curvilinear flowers like in the Kirman rugs.

Sarouk is the name of rugs with a rich history, which are woven in the homonymous town as well as in the city of Arak and surrounding areas. Names of rugs from the Sarouk area are also: Feraghan, Feraghan Sarouk, Mahal, Mohajaran Sarouk, Mushkabad and Viss / Golpayegan. The first successes of Sarouk rugs and rugs were largely due to the U.S. market. The Sarouk still continue to be popular among Persian rugs and are made of very good quality wool. The designs are usually floral in style, in ivory beige and in shades of red and blue.

Classic rugs: Rugs that are woven in urban centres in fixed workshops and looms(as opposed to nomads). Their designs are first done on paper by rug designers. These designs are strictly conducted by the weaver during the manufacturing. Even in these rugs, though there may be slight variations in weaving.

Flat woven at one or both ends of the rug's width: In some rugs the nomads weave at fringes on a narrow Kilim one or both sides of the width, or they weave them artistically into small braids. It is a technique various weavers use for a greater durability or simply to demonstrate their skill. Examples

Abrash: Due to the different amount of grease in the wool and the added salt during the process of dyeing, the wool has got a varying colour absorbance. This is not very visible before weaving. During the weaving though, lines of the same colour are formed in the rug. This is called Abrash (which in Farsi means little cloud) and it shows that the wool was not manufactured using chemical means and marks the naturalness and authenticity of the rugs. Examples
