Varamin Rugs

Varamin is the capital of Varamin county, which lies south of the Persian capital Tehran. The Varamin rugs and rugs have geometric patterns with repeating medallions found especially in corridors. The colours used in Varamin rugs are dark brown and dark red in a khaki or blue background. Their wool is soft and dense and the weave is tight. The rugs woven in the villages near Varamin use primarily the asymmetric (Persian) knot, whereas the nomads, depending on their ethnicity, use the asymmetric and the symmetric (Turkish) knot. The warp and weft are mainly cotton.
