The city of Mood is located in the Khorasan province in Northeastern Iran. The manufacture of rugs and production of saffron made the city world-famous. Most Mood rugs are of high quality, made of thin, soft wool with fine and shapely designs. Mood rugs are woven with an asymmetrical knot. Bright blue and red with beige for contrast are usually used. In their designs flowers and medallions are typically used. The artisans often weave the Mir design and the design called the garden (i.e., repeated squares decorated with trees, weeping willows, flowers, deer and birds).
Mashad is known as the City of Ferdowsi the poet who wrote "Shahnameh", which is considered to be the national epic of Iran. It is also famous for its excellent quality wool. The old Mashad rugs were very good and had fine weave. For a time, due to the high manufacturing cost, quality did not meet the requirements of buyers and the demand had declined significantly. This happened until the mid-1950, when a significant improvement began. Their rugs started to look like works of art, with beautiful, tasteful, fine and detailed drawings. A great variety of flowers, "mir I botah", beautiful medallions and borders with garlands adorn Mashad rugs. The colours are almost always herbal. In Chorasan there are many krapprot which give a very sweet red.The Indigo blue is also the second of the main colours used. The knots used are senneh (Persian knot) and ghiordes (Turkish knot). The Mashad rugs called Turkbafs, in which the ghiordes knot is used, are of very high quality and aesthetics.
Classic rugs: Rugs that are woven in urban centres in fixed workshops and looms(as opposed to nomads). Their designs are first done on paper by rug designers. These designs are strictly conducted by the weaver during the manufacturing. Even in these rugs, though there may be slight variations in weaving.
All CarpetU2 carpets are subject to cleaning with high quality antibacterial and moth protection products according to Persian law.
Abrash: Due to the different amount of grease in the wool and the added salt during the process of dyeing, the wool has got a varying colour absorbance. This is not very visible before weaving. During the weaving though, lines of the same colour are formed in the rug. This is called Abrash (which in Farsi means little cloud) and it shows that the wool was not manufactured using chemical means and marks the naturalness and authenticity of the rugs. Examples
